Q: How can I get involved in the NECP?

A: Anyone over 18 that wants to do their part to reduce crime and protect others in Northeast Minneapolis can participate in the NECP. If there is not a group going in your neighborhood, or not one going out at a time that matches your schedule, you can apply to be a walk leader in your neighborhood. There are multiple walk leaders in each neighborhood. A walk leader simply is a person that makes a simple commitment to show up at a certain place, on a certain day, at a certain time so others can depend on someone being there to walk with. You will be joined by other experienced walkers at first to get you familiar with the process. It's easy, fun, good exercise, and you get a chance to meet a lot of your neighbors that you normally would not.

If you would like to be a NECP walker or walk/patrol leader, please register at our special site for this: http://www.NECPREPORTS.org

Currently we have multiple patrols going out in these neighborhoods.

Audubon neighborhood:

Beltrami neighborhood:

Bottineau:

Columbia Park:

Holland:

Logan Park:

Marshall Terrace:

Sheridan:

Waite Park:

Windom Park:

If you would like to join or start a new patrol in your neighborhood please register at our special site for this:  or drop us an email or phone call. If you would like to merge your existing walking group into the NECP neighborhood system, please send your interest to info@nepatrol.org
We are seeking leaders in all other areas of NE Minneapolis.

Q: How is the NECP funded?

A: The NECP is funded by private individuals, businesses, and civic organizations. If you would like to help the NECP financially, please visit our donation page.

Q: How is the money used?

A: Money and supplies are used to outfit volunteers with radios, clothing, flashlights, and other necessities, as well as promotiona flyers and advertising, posters, gas money, and other miscellaneous needs that come up. Please see our donation page for things we need.

Q: Does the NECP patrol at night when most crime happens?

A: Yes, we have patrols going out at night. However, we do not release the exact days or times we patrol to the public, as we do not want criminals to be able to make plans to avoid us.

Q: Does the NECP patrol my block?

A: That all depends on what neighborhood you live in. Not all NE neighborhoods are participating in the NECP program. To find out, check with your neighborhood association. You can find the contact information for your neighborhood association here: http://www.nrp.org/R2/Neighborhoods/Summary/NbhdSummary.html If you have an NECP volunteer on your block, your block is included when the patrol is out. So it's important to have a volunteer from your block. However, we do patrol as many blocks as possible when out.

Q: I would like to report criminal activity on my block, can I report this to the NECP to check into, and remain anonymous?

A: The first thing to do at the sight of any crime is to call 911, even if you think the police will not make it there in time to stop the crime. You must do this to get it on record. Tell the 911 operator that you want to remain anonymous. However, you can also leave an anonymous message for the NECP by leaving a message on the NECP tip line; (612) 708-3064 or you can send an e-mail to; tip@nepatrol.org and we will put the address in our file. Please be very clear of what the problem is and the address.
